Nothin' Like A Good Ole BBQ With Friends

When the cat is away, the mice shall play! Just kidding :p Ryan had been in Detroit, Jesse in Canada and Daniel had been working late, so us girls were trying to find something to do. Sarah was kind enough to invite us all over for a BBQ and playdate. We had yummy hotdogs, beans and salad along with my very first sweetened tea. I'm thinking I should try new things a little more often : ) The boys had fun playing and watching the movie "Cars", while us mommies chatted about every day life. It was a lot of fun, and the boys were adorable eating their chocolate ice cream. These are the days I'm really going to miss when we move. (Thanks Sarah for the pictures!)

Happy Mother's Day!

Ah, Mother's Day. It's a time to reflect on your children and the role that you have in their lives. Oh yeah, and it's a day to celebrate you : )

My amazing husband gave me a day all to myself. He told me to leave and do whatever I wanted to do. No limits. Being a SAHM, sometimes I wish every weekend was like that :0) It was so sweet of him, and I took full advantage of it.

I made breakfast for the boys, knowing I wasn't going to see them all day. I got dressed then left around 10. I ran some errands first, and then headed to the mall for some retail therapy. A new purse was first on my list, and new sunglasses second. After that, I went to Barnes & Nobles and picked up "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls (Really good book so far, very funny! If you like Augusten Burroughs, she's right up your alley). I discovered I could get the book cheaper at Target (haha), so I went there and picked up the book and some good movie theater food. Then, I went out for Chinese with Sarah & Jody, and I must say I ate so much I thought I'd burst. My crab wontons were seriously the size of my head. Then, we went to Dutch Brother's and picked up $1 smoothie (I'm really going to miss them!) and I headed home. THEN, I went to redbox, picked up "The Blind Side" and curled up on my bed and relaxed. SO...that was my day!! Oh yeah, and Ryan picked up a Coldstone Cake while out with Connor. Strawberry Cheesecake : )

So you wonder, what did Ryan do with Connor? The pictures are below, and Ryan came home wanting to do this every weekend with him : ) Thanks again Hun!

Da Train Da Train

Gotta love Metro Parent. We found a National Train Day event that happened all around the country on Saturday, May 8th. And the best part, it was free : )

We took the Max to the Union Station in downtown Portland, which was fun. Connor LOVED riding the train down there, and he was so giddy with excitement. A lot of times we love to go out and do things simply to see the look on Connor's face when they're happening. That, and we try to soak up every thing we can before we leave Portland!

They had a lot of informational things to get the word out about traveling by train, but had some things for the kids to do as well. They had train tours (which we were mostly interested in), but we were only able to go on one of the trains, as the other train was too noisy, and Connor was afraid of it! Here are some pictures of our weekend:

Connor on the Max

This was the train he liked : )

He had no problem taking his picture with this guy!

This was the train he WAS scared of..noisy horn!

He settled down as soon as Daddy took him

Inside the train

Some random clown came up to him and gave him a sucker!

The view from the top!

Clown performances

Haha. We told him he could have his sucker in the car, and as soon as we got in the car he reminded us!

lol

Waiting for the ride back

Looking both ways...

He was ready to get on!

Cinco de Mayo

This past weekend we had so much going on, but decided to add something else to our list of things we wanted to do. The waterfront was having it's annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, and we thought it would be fun to go and see what it had to offer.

When we got there, we were quite surprised to see all of the things we could do. They had a whole carnival section with games and rides, a vendor section with souvenirs and knick-knacks you don't need, and then a whole food section with every variety possible.

We decided to venture over to the carnival part where they had rides for the little ones. We asked Connor if he wanted to go on a boat ride and at first he said "no." We asked him a little while later and he said "yes." Of course, we figured we'd get him into the boat and he'd cry and want to get out, but he surprised us all and stayed on the ride! And from there, he went on about 6 more rides and had the biggest grin on his face.

Oh yeah, and of course we ate. That's the best part of festivals!
