Connor's First Time Bowling
Instead of sitting at home sulking because we had missed the biggest holiday of the year with our family in Buffalo, we decided to spend some more time as a family and try our hand at bowling. Now you're wondering how in the world we managed to take a 2 year old bowling and keep his attention the entire time. Answer, it was easy! We knew it was something he wanted to try, we picked the end lanes as not to disturb any of the other bowlers, and we were extremely patient with him. Oh yeah, and he was in an exceptional mood that day : ) After Ryan got ready (yes, he gets "ready" for bowling), he showed him what to do and had him pick whether or not to roll the ball, or use the ramp that was provided for us. He switched every now and then, seeing as it was exciting to what the ball roll off the ramp. I think the best part was the amazement on Connor's face as he watched the ball roll down the lane and knock over pins. To know that he did that all by himself was a huge accomplishment for him (he's in that "I can do it by myself" phase!) It was such a success, we ended up buying another game after we finished the first TWO.
Note to parents: Extreme soreness occurs the next day for them!

Christmas Day
As you've previously read, the flu bug hit our house HARD during Christmas. We ended up staying in Michigan to avoid getting any one else sick, and had our own Christmas traditions in the new house. Connor sleepily woke up, came running down the stairs and his eyes just lit up! He had forgotten in his sleepy slumber that Santa was due to arrive, but the look on his face told us he had just remembered. He opened all of his presents in about 10 minutes, but I can remember how excited I was for Santa when I was a kid, so I couldn't blame him : ) We had a big breakfast (pastries, bacon, eggs, etc) which I barely ate since I was the last to get sick, and then we enjoyed the Michigan winter in our very own back yard. We watched a movie later in the evening, and finished the day with giant steaks and bernaise, a request of Ryan's. Even though the day hadn't gone as planned, we went with the punches and created lasting memories for Connor!

Christmas Tree Decorating
We had our Christmas plans all laid out. We'd decorate the tree early, leave for Buffalo with enough time to get there for Christmas Eve, spend all day at the Harvey's on Christmas morning, see my parents the next day, and spend the rest of our holiday time with friends and family. WELL, that didn't happen. One night, a few days before Christmas, Connor woke up and got sick. Not once, not twice, but three times. We assumed it was something he ate and it would pass. Little did we know, Daddy would get it two days later, so severe we ended up in the emergency room. After he was able to get some fluids and anti-nausea medicine, it was perfect timing for me to get it. I don't think I've ever been so sick in my entire life. It literally wiped out our family for days. And talk about timing!!
After laying in bed for days, drinking Gatorade and little else, we mustered enough strength and courage to get up and decorate our Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. We wanted to still make things special for Connor, and enjoy our first major holiday in our new home. I made them a nice dinner, we decorated the tree, and then went for a drive to see the Festival of Lights. It wasn't what we had originally intended, but we made it work. Connor didn't know any different, and if he did, he seemed not to care.
Oh yeah, and excuse our boxes, dishelved appearances, and UGLY drapes : ) It literally took every ounce of us to decorate that tree. All are better now!
